Buildings and Grounds SupervisorJOB DESCRIPTION Title: Buildings and Grounds Supervisor Unit: Administration Service Center Reports to: Superintendent of Schools and Business Manager Contract: Twelve-month contracted salary, plus benefits per Education Support Staff Board Policy 5.280-AP Job Goal: Provide a safe and healthy environment conducive for learning and working Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education: High school diploma or equivalent; certification in a trade or associate’s degree preferred.Interpersonal Skills: Works well with others from diverse backgrounds. Ability to interact with students and staff appropriately; desire to continually improve; ability to work independently.Language Skills: Ability to communicate fluently verbally and in writing in English. Performance Responsibilities for Board of Education: Possesses a valid driver’s license and clean criminal history background check.Knowledgeable in areas of heating, air conditioning, plumbing, electrical maintenance, carpentry, and general maintenance.Promotes safety, health and comfort of students and staff.Supervises and maintains school grounds and contracted service providers.Assists in snow removal.Supervises and participates in general cleaning and maintenance of school facilities.Oversees security of the facilities.Participates in professional development activities.Oversees general fire safety of facilities.Performs emergency repairs as needed.Maintains five-year facilities plan.Ensures that preventative maintenance schedule is implemented and completes maintenance records.Serves as liaison for vendors and contractorsServes as a liaison for District administrators regarding services to buildings and grounds.Available to fire and police departments on a 24-hour basis to respond to alarms.Orders supplies and maintains inventories.Keeps abreast of new information, innovations, ideas, and best practices.Ensures that all activities conform to government regulations protecting the health, safety, and rights of employees and the public (including but not limited to asbestos, material safety data sheets for chemicals, access to buildings by the handicapped, and playground safety).Advises on the hiring of contractors to perform certain maintenance or repair services and monitors the performance of these same contractors.Supervises summer cleaning programs and schedules.Examines buildings on a regular basis for needed repairs, maintenance, and cleanliness.Checks buildings on weekends and holidays as needed.Establishes and recommends, in cooperation with administrators, priorities on repair projects and estimates the cost of these projects, including summer projects.Maintains manual and electronic documents, files and records (e.g., inspection records, time sheets, work orders and requisitions, supplies, chemical storage, crisis management data, key controls, etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities and ensuring an up-to-date reference.Manages budgets (e.g., develops, plans, controls, and coordinates within department and with others in subdivision, etc.) for the purpose of achieving department objectives and District goals within budget and with a maximum of efficiencyOther duties as assigned. Evaluation: This position will be evaluated at least once annually by April 15 by the superintendent of schools and business manager.
