PLEASE NOTE: BOOMER IS LOCATED IN A PRIVATE FOSTER HOME IN MILWAUKEE (NOT THE CHICAGO AREA). OUT-OF-STATE ADOPTIONS ARE ALWAYS CONSIDERED BUT IT IS UP TO THE ADOPTING FAMILY TO MAKE ARRANGEMENTS TO COME TO THE FOSTER HOME TO FINALIZE THE ADOPTION. Boomer is a handsome 7 year old Cairn boy who had as sad a start in life as one might imagine. Boomer came from a mass-breeding facility (puppymill) where he was used as a stud. When he arrived at his foster home, he was an unhappy, quivering shell of a dog who had no quality of life and just wanted to be alone in his crate. But what a difference some time and a loving foster family have made! Today, Boomers big brown eyes sparkle and his little tail is often wagging to show his new found happiness. This little man LOVES toys and will spend the day rounding them up and entertaining himself. When Boomer first arrived in his foster home he had no interest in the other dogs there but today he is Mr Social and always wants to be in the middle of the pack which includes two Australian Shepherds and two other Cairns. Boomer loves having the safe haven of his crate. He will go in and out of it throughout the day. He used to sleep in his crate at night but now he chooses to join his foster parents and the rest of the pack on the bed. Boomer is affectionate and love a good back scratch. But like many puppymill refugees he doesnt like to be picked up and will stiffen when someone tries to lift him. And like most mill dogs, Boomer never learned to walk on a leash. When he first arrived at his foster home, he couldnt walk more than a block. But today, he LOVES going for walks and is now able to walk more than 2 miles! He loves to go camping with his foster family and hike the trails and sit by the campfire in the evening. Boomer loves having a special someone around for company. As his foster mom describes, He gardens with me, follows me around as I work in the house, and sits quietly next to me in the evening. He also loves sleeping in our bed with us. Every morning Boomer greets us with such exuberance. It is wonderful to see how he has come to love and trust us. I know he will be able to do this with his new family too. Like any dog, particularly one that came with so much baggage, Boomer does have his challenges. He is not completely potty trained and when hes around the house he wears a belly band. But hes made improvements! When he goes outside, he does his business but he hasnt developed a signal for letting his foster parents know when he has to go out. When Boomer first arrived at his foster home, he would act out against the other dogs if he was startled when sleeping. This rarely happens anymore and Boomer never reacts out against his family members. But it is still something that his forever family should be aware of. Boomer requires a home where there is someone home for the majority of the day and a home with at least one other dog would be greatly preferred as Boomer has learned so much for his canine companions. A fenced yard is an absolute must but Boomer loves to go for walks and be active. An active senior couple..a retired single gal or gent.or a family with older children might all be good fits for this boy. Experience with mill dogs would be a plus and PATIENCE is a must. This is a dog that had absolutely no quality of life before coming to CRUSA. He has grown by leaps and bounds thanks to the patience and love of his foster family and now he seeks a forever home that will help him continue on his journey. Boomer has been neutered and has tested negative for heartworm disease. He is on a monthly heartworm preventative and is up-to-date on all his vaccinations.
