We adopt out an awfully lot of precious, playful puppies. There is a pretty good market for the purebred adult dogs that have become inconvenient and, thus, ended up at the pound. Given time, we can move significant numbers of good-looking young-adult dogs that have hit the skids down here. We find homes for numerous little (and not so little), older dogs that for one reason or another have come up homeless. Then, there is Honey Baby. Honey Baby is a super-sweet little girl that was just sitting out her last few days by herself at the pound. We don't know her genetic heritage, but she does have a bit of the 'apple domed' head like a lot of chihuahuas. And, she has that smooshy-type skin that the best ratties sport (and somehow allows them to give off a lot of heat on cold winter nights). So, we've listed her as chi x rattie; but, your guess is as good as ours. Let's just call her a Honey Baby. Honey Baby doesn't have a lot of hair. She did, however, test negative for both types of mange and is slowly (so slowly) reacting to her thyroid medication. She will have to take the thyroid meds for the rest of her life, but, luckily, they are quite cheap and she takes them pretty willingly. Her hair will get better (maybe not perfect) with time, but her teeth aren't going to regenerate. They're in pretty bad shape--broken pretty badly, although she eats solid food. It appears as if she has had puppies every time the opportunity presented itself. I'll just bet she was a great mama, but her puppy-producing days are over, and it is time for Honey Baby to find her forever home. Honey Baby would take just any little corner in any leaky old shed with just a smidgeon of the cheapest, stalest food throwed her way every now and again. But, we at Cache Creek are going to insist on better than that for this little girl. (She's six to eight years old.) For the price of a soft little rug on the floor, a few ounces of decent doggie chow each day, a modicum of vet care, and a kind, gentle spirit, you can experience the incredible, no-holds-barred love and devotion of Ms. Honey Baby, Super-Sweetie, for all the days of her life. Honey Baby is ready to go home with you just as soon as you figure out that you can't live without her. She is totally vetted up* and waiting. Give us a call or (better) an email. Honey Baby is part of our Great Great Escape Program.** Thank you. *All dogs that leave Cache Creek are up-to-date on all shots (including rabies, if old enough), wormed appropriately, heartworm tested (if age-appropriate) and started on heartworm preventative, treated with flea/tick preventative, spayed or neutered, and microchipped. **Any no-kill shelter has a few dogs or cats that for one reason or another does not find their forever family right off the bat. To prevent these often great companions from growing up (or growing old) at the shelter, we have inaugurated our 'Great Escape Program.' It is simply a reduction of adoption fee for the same fully vetted puppy or dog to $150. For the more extreme cases, we enter the dog into the 'Great Great Escape Program' which just means their fee is $100.
