Summary:Work involves maintaining an inventory of parts at BJCTA garage for motor vehiclesand industrial equipment. Employee is responsible for inventorying, stocking, andissuing parts and supplies and/or purchasing assigned or designated parts and servicesfrom an approved list of vendors. Work is performed with some latitude for independentjudgment. Work is supervised by an immediate supervisor and is reviewed periodicallyto assure conformity with departmental policies and procedures. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:1. Checks parts catalog for proper part identification; contacts vendors to obtainprice bids; prepares parts requisitions; obtains purchase order numbers fromPurchasing Department.2. Receives shipments from vendors, checking vendor packing slips/invoices foraccuracy and insuring quantities received are as stated; confers with suppliersregarding late deliveries; maintains appropriate records. Directly issues partsreceived to open work orders or places parts in proper location within the partsroom.3. Enters receipt and distribution of parts/supplies into computer to updateautomated inventory records.4. Issues replacement parts to mechanics; assists mechanics in choice of parts.5. Assembles and fills orders as requested. Issues parts to open computer workorders as parts are distributed to mechanics.6. Conducts periodic physical inventory to assure proper availability of requiredstock; replenishes stock as shipments arrive.7. Bar codes all inventory parts for tracking usage.8. Complies with all regulations regarding the handling of hazardous materials.Obtains Material Safety Data Sheets as required from vendors.9. Must understand and follow all safety rules.10. Uses a variety of materials and inventory operations equipment; such as, forklifts,hand trucks, pallet jacks, computers, etc. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:1. Knowledge of automotive parts, tools, repair, and equipment.2. Knowledge of general automotive stockroom practices and procedures.3. Knowledge of record keeping.4. Ability to maintain automated inventory records.5. Ability to operate office equipment and machines.Work Environment:Work is performed in an office and stockroom near a garage area and exposes theemployee to various fumes and gases from vehicle exhausts, solvents, grease, oils,paint and other chemical hazards and extreme weather conditions while workingoutside.Physical Demands:Work involves the regular, and at times sustained, performance of physical tasks suchas walking, bending, stooping, and lifting or carrying moderately heavy (20-50 pounds)objects and occasionally very heavy (50 pounds or over) objects.Mathematical SkillsAbility to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers,common fractions, and decimals, ability to compute rates and percents and the ability todraw and interpret bar graphs from data.
